Installation
Supported platforms, pip, pipx, npm, upgrades, verification, and removal.
Aevrin supports Python 3.10 or newer on macOS, Linux, and Windows. Install it from PyPI with
pip or pipx, or from npm with Node.js 18 or newer.
Choose a package manager
pipx install aevrinRecommended for Python-based global installation because dependencies stay isolated.
python3 -m pip install --upgrade aevrinThis works in a virtual environment or any Python installation that permits package writes.
npm install --global aevrinnpm creates its own private Python environment and installs the matching Aevrin release there. It does not alter globally installed Python libraries.
Install by platform
brew install pipx
pipx ensurepath
pipx install aevrinpython3 -m pip install --user pipx
python3 -m pipx ensurepath
pipx install aevrinpy -m pip install --user pipx
py -m pipx ensurepath
pipx install aevrinRestart the shell after ensurepath, then verify the installed command:
aevrin --version
aevrin --helpScanner prerequisites
Scanning runs one version-pinned engine image in a container, so Docker is required - not recommended. Install Docker Desktop or a compatible Docker Engine, start it before scanning, and allocate at least 4 GB of memory. Windows must use Linux containers and allow bind mounts from its temporary directory. Scanning also needs outbound HTTPS, because resolving a server means fetching its package.
There is no non-Docker fallback and no lookup of scanner programs on your PATH. Scanning an MCP server means
starting it, which executes code published by someone else, so an unavailable sandbox is an
unavailable scan rather than a scan performed without one.
If you would rather not run Docker locally, --remote uploads a local folder's source and
scans it on Aevrin's servers instead, so nothing runs on this machine. It is only valid for a
local path; a GitHub URL or a live server is already reachable from Aevrin, so start that scan
from the dashboard.
aevrin scan ./my-mcp-server --remoteWhere a scan could not establish something, Aevrin says so rather than scoring the gap as clean:
a stage that ran with something missing is marked PARTIAL COVERAGE, and a scan where a required
stage could not run at all is SCAN INCOMPLETE and exits 3.
Upgrade, repair, or remove
pipx upgrade aevrin
aevrin --versionUse pipx reinstall aevrin to repair an installation. To remove everything cleanly, run
aevrin logout, then pipx uninstall aevrin.
For pip, repair with python3 -m pip install --upgrade --force-reinstall --no-cache-dir aevrin.
For npm, upgrade or repair with npm install --global aevrin@latest and remove with
npm uninstall --global aevrin.
